Our MEXC review
MEXC at a glance
MEXC is a centralized crypto exchange that has been operating since 2018 and has built its reputation on two things: an unusually long list of tradable tokens and some of the lowest headline trading fees in the industry. The company says it serves more than 40 million users in over 170 countries and regions, and its futures guide describes more than 700 perpetual contracts. CoinGecko lists the exchange as registered in Seychelles with an address in Victoria, Mahé. For traders who hunt for small-cap tokens soon after they launch, MEXC is often one of the first venues to list them. That breadth comes with trade-offs on regulation and account handling that every prospective user should weigh before depositing.
Regulation and safety
This is the weakest part of the MEXC story. The exchange does not hold a licence from any major financial regulator, and in May 2026 the Financial Services Authority of Seychelles published a press release identifying MX Global Ltd, a Seychelles company, as the operator of the MEXC platform. The FSA said the company had never been licensed or authorised to provide virtual asset services in or from Seychelles, that it was starting enforcement measures, and that it could not help users recover funds. The regulator also noted that an earlier entity, MEXC Global LTD, had been struck off and later dissolved without ever holding authorisation. You can read the statement on the FSA Seychelles website. Industry reporting has also listed warnings or restrictions from authorities in several other countries.
On the positive side, MEXC publishes monthly proof-of-reserves reports with a Merkle-tree tool that lets users check that their balance is included. Reports from 2026 showed reserve ratios above 100% for the main assets (for example, a BTC ratio of 295% in the April 2026 snapshot), and the security firm Hacken has been involved in audits and penetration testing. Reviews we consulted report no major hack involving customer funds. Even so, proof of reserves is a snapshot of assets and not a substitute for regulatory supervision, segregation rules or an investor compensation scheme.
Fees and costs
Low fees are MEXC's main selling point. According to the exchange's own fee guide, base-tier spot trading costs 0.00% for makers and 0.05% for takers. Holding at least 500 MX tokens is described as giving a 50% discount on spot and futures fees, while paying fees in MX gives a 20% discount (the larger discount takes priority). Perpetual futures are advertised from 0.00% maker and 0.02% taker on promotional pairs; MEXC's futures guide also quotes standard rates of 0.01% maker and 0.04% taker for many contracts, so check the contract you trade. Crypto deposits are free apart from network costs, and withdrawal fees vary by coin and blockchain.
| Item | MEXC (base tier) |
|---|---|
| Spot maker / taker | 0.00% / 0.05% |
| Futures maker / taker | from 0.00% / 0.02% (standard 0.01% / 0.04%) |
| Maximum leverage | 500x on selected USDT-margined perpetuals |
| Listed assets | 2,900+ cryptocurrencies (company figure) |
| Crypto deposit fee | Free (network fee only) |
Markets and products
MEXC claims more than 2,960 listed cryptocurrencies, one of the largest catalogues among centralized exchanges; CoinGecko's own tracking of its spot market shows a smaller but still large number of coins and pairs. Beyond spot trading, the platform offers USDT-margined perpetual futures with leverage adjustable from 1x up to 500x on selected contracts, an Earn section with flexible and fixed savings plus on-chain staking, launchpad-style token events, and a copy trading section linked from the site. Very high leverage magnifies losses as quickly as gains, and liquidation can happen within minutes during volatile moves, so the 500x ceiling should be viewed as a risk flag rather than a feature for most people.
Platforms and tools
Trading is available through the web platform, mobile apps and an API. In 2026 MEXC announced an integration with TradingView for derivatives trading, letting users place orders from TradingView charts. The interface is feature-dense and aimed at active traders; beginners may find the number of markets and promotional banners overwhelming at first.
Deposits, withdrawals and verification
MEXC is primarily a crypto-to-crypto venue. Fiat access is mainly through peer-to-peer trading with escrow and third-party payment gateways such as MoonPay and Banxa, and CoinGecko lists EUR and BRL among fiat deposit options. MEXC's guide states that unverified accounts can withdraw up to 5 BTC per 24 hours, while verified accounts get roughly 50 BTC, and that KYC unlocks additional features. Some third-party reviews say full KYC is needed for withdrawals and launchpad participation, so expect to verify your identity if you plan to move significant sums.
Account freezes are a notable concern. In July 2025 the exchange restricted roughly $3 million belonging to a trader known as The White Whale, citing a breach of its terms. After a public dispute, MEXC's chief strategy officer apologised in October 2025, said the funds had been released and promised a faster channel for unresolved account problems. Other users reported similar difficulties at the time. If you use MEXC, keep only active trading balances on the exchange.
Availability
MEXC does not serve residents of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, mainland China, Singapore or Hong Kong, along with sanctioned countries such as North Korea, Iran and Cuba and Russian-controlled regions of Ukraine, according to the review sources we consulted. Because the exchange is not licensed locally in most places, users elsewhere should check whether their own regulator has issued a warning before signing up.
Who it suits
- Experienced traders looking for very low spot and futures fees.
- Altcoin hunters who want early access to newly launched tokens.
- Users comfortable with self-custody who withdraw profits regularly.
It is a poor fit for beginners, anyone who needs a regulated venue with investor protection, and residents of the restricted countries listed above.
Verdict
MEXC offers outstanding coin selection and fees that few rivals match, backed by regular proof-of-reserves reports. Those strengths sit alongside an absence of meaningful licensing, a 2026 enforcement statement from the Seychelles regulator and a history of high-profile account freezes. We see it as a specialist venue for experienced traders who manage counterparty risk carefully, not as a place to store long-term holdings. Full details are on the official MEXC website.
