Our Bitget review
Overview
Bitget launched in 2018 as a derivatives-focused venue and has since grown into what it now markets as a "Universal Exchange" (UEX), a single account that combines crypto spot and futures with tokenized stocks, ETFs, commodities and FX-style products. The company is incorporated in Seychelles and is also registered in Georgia's Tbilisi Free Zone. In its September 2026 Proof of Reserves release, Bitget said it serves more than 125 million users. Its best-known features are copy trading and a large futures market, and it has become one of the higher-volume offshore platforms, with roughly 800 coins advertised and more than 700 spot pairs reported by CoinMarketCap.
This review explains how Bitget handles client assets, what trading costs, which products are on offer and where its regulatory position remains incomplete. That last point matters most for European and North American readers.
Regulation & safety
Bitget's regulatory footprint is a patchwork of registrations, not a single strong licence. As of early 2026, Coin Bureau listed a digital currency exchange registration with AUSTRAC in Australia, Bitcoin and digital asset service provider registrations in El Salvador, an exchange and custody registration with the National Bank of Georgia, and a VASP registration with Argentina's CNV, plus several national VASP registrations in EU states. In the UK, it reaches clients through an arrangement with an FCA-authorised firm, and the UK site is limited to buying and selling.
In the EU, the key point is that Bitget does not hold a MiCA authorisation. Its European arm, Bitget EU in Vienna, filed an application with Austria's FMA in mid-2026. CASPtracker reported that it was still not on ESMA's register as of 1 November 2026. France's AMF had also blacklisted bitget.com from November 2023 until July 2026. Canadian regulators have raised concerns too: in July 2025, Saskatchewan's securities regulator warned that Bitget was not registered there.
On the solvency side, Bitget is stronger. It has published a Merkle-tree Proof of Reserves every month since December 2022. The August 2026 snapshot showed a total reserve ratio of 122% across more than 20 assets. It also keeps a separate Protection Fund that was set up in 2022 with $300 million and is now backed by 5,500 BTC. Bitget valued the fund at an average of about $382 million in August 2026. A reserve snapshot is not an audit, but monthly disclosure has been consistent.
The most notable incident is from April 2025. After abnormal trading in VOXEL perpetual futures, Bitget rolled back affected accounts and later began legal action against accounts it accused of manipulation. Some traders objected to the reversal. No hack of the exchange has been reported.
Fees & costs
Bitget's fees are competitive with the large offshore venues. Base-tier spot trading costs a flat 0.1% for both makers and takers. Paying fees in the native BGB token cuts that by 20%, to 0.08%. USDT-margined futures start at 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker, and VIP tiers lower both rates for high-volume accounts. Crypto deposits are free, while withdrawal fees vary by token and network.
| Item | Base rate |
|---|---|
| Spot maker / taker | 0.10% / 0.10% |
| Spot with BGB discount | 0.08% |
| Futures maker / taker | 0.02% / 0.06% |
| Max futures leverage | Up to 125x (selected contracts) |
| Reserve ratio (Aug 2026) | 122% |
Products & markets
Bitget's product range is broad. Alongside spot and USDT- or coin-margined perpetuals with up to 125x leverage on selected contracts, it offers:
- Copy trading for spot and futures, where users follow lead traders and share profits with them. This is the feature most closely tied to the brand.
- Trading bots, including grid and other automated strategies.
- Earn and structured products for yield on idle balances.
- Launchpad and launch events for new token listings.
- Tokenized stocks, ETFs and commodity products under the UEX model, which may be restricted in some countries.
Spot liquidity on major pairs is deep, and the coin list includes many small-cap tokens. Small caps can be very volatile and sometimes thinly traded.
Platforms & tools
Trading runs on the website, desktop and mobile apps, with an API for algorithmic users. The interface is aimed at active derivatives traders and includes advanced order types, position tools and the copy-trading marketplace. Bitget also runs a separate self-custody wallet business, Bitget Wallet. Beginners can use simple buy/sell screens, but the main exchange view has many panels and takes some learning.
Deposits, withdrawals & KYC
Identity verification has been mandatory for all users since September 2023, so you cannot deposit or trade before completing KYC. European users have had SEPA bank transfers since January 2023, and UK users can use Faster Payments. Bitget also works with third-party payment partners for card and local-currency purchases. Fiat options vary by country, so check what is available in yours before funding an account. Withdrawals in crypto are processed per network, with fees shown before you confirm.
Availability
Bitget's terms exclude the United States and its territories, Hong Kong, Singapore, Iran, North Korea, Cuba and several other sanctioned or high-risk jurisdictions. UK users get a limited buy/sell service. EU residents should watch the outcome of Bitget EU's MiCA application, because Bitget has no MiCA authorisation in place. Using a VPN to bypass restrictions breaks the terms of service and can lead to frozen funds.
Who it suits
Bitget suits experienced traders outside restricted regions who want low futures fees, high leverage and copy trading in one app. It is less suitable for people who put regulation first, especially in the EU, where licensed alternatives already exist. Beginners can use it, but high leverage and copy trading can lead to fast losses.
Verdict
Bitget offers low costs, strong liquidity and one of the most developed copy-trading systems in the market. Monthly reserve reporting and a large Protection Fund add some reassurance. Against that, it lacks a top-tier licence or MiCA authorisation, the VOXEL rollback of 2025 drew criticism, and many countries are excluded. It is a capable offshore exchange with real regulatory limits. You can review current terms on the official Bitget website.
