Our AvaTrade review
Overview
AvaTrade is an Ireland-based forex and CFD broker founded in 2006, which marks its 20th year in the industry in 2026. It has grown into one of the most widely licensed retail brokers, with regulated subsidiaries across Europe, Australia, Japan, Israel, South Africa, the Middle East, Kenya and the British Virgin Islands. AvaTrade is known less for rock-bottom pricing and more for its breadth: commission-free CFDs, a dedicated forex options platform, CME futures access and two copy-trading services. You can compare entities and products on the official AvaTrade website.
Regulation and safety
AvaTrade operates through a network of regulated companies. The main ones are:
- AVA Trade EU Ltd – Central Bank of Ireland, reference C53877.
- DT Direct Investment Hub Ltd – CySEC, licence 347/17.
- Ava Capital Markets Australia Pty Ltd – ASIC, AFSL 406684.
- Ava Trade Japan K.K. – Japan FSA registration 1662, also a member of the Financial Futures Association of Japan.
- Ava Capital Markets Pty Ltd – FSCA, FSP 45984.
- ATrade Ltd – Israel Securities Authority.
- Ava Trade Middle East Ltd – ADGM Financial Services Regulatory Authority, 190018.
- Ava Trade Markets Ltd – BVI FSC, SIBA/L/13/1049.
- Kenya's Capital Markets Authority, licence 262, and Colombia's SFC have also been reported; Canadian clients are served through a partnership with Friedberg Direct.
This is one of the broadest licence sets among CFD brokers, and several of the regulators are considered top tier. The sources we reviewed did not report any regulatory fines against AvaTrade, although regulators including the FCA, CySEC and Belgium's FSMA have issued warnings about clone websites impersonating the brand between late 2025 and 2026. Traders should only use the official domain and verify contact details.
AvaTrade does not accept residents of the United States, and the Irish EU entity only onboards residents of the European Economic Area.
Fees and costs
The standard retail account is commission-free, with all costs built into the spread. ForexBrokers.com measured an average EUR/USD spread of about 0.93 pips, and FXEmpire recorded 0.8 pips in a June 2025 test, which is competitive for a no-commission account. DailyForex lists the same 0.9-pip figure as both the typical and minimum EUR/USD spread, suggesting that AvaTrade's retail pricing is relatively stable rather than heavily variable. Professional clients can access tighter pricing. AvaTrade does not charge its own deposit or withdrawal fees, but it does levy a relatively steep inactivity fee: reviewers report a charge of 50 units of the account currency for each quarter of inactivity once an account has been dormant for three months, plus a 100-unit administration fee after twelve months without activity.
| Key figure | AvaTrade |
|---|---|
| Minimum deposit | $100 |
| Typical EUR/USD spread | About 0.9 pips |
| Commission | None on standard CFD account |
| Maximum leverage | 1:30 EU/Australia retail; up to 1:400 (FSCA/ADGM or Professional) |
| Tradable instruments | About 1,250+ |
Accounts and products
Most clients open a standard retail account with a $100 minimum deposit. Premium tiers reward larger balances or trading volumes, and qualifying traders can apply for professional status with higher leverage outside the EU. Islamic swap-free accounts are available. Leverage depends on the entity: 1:30 on major forex for EU, Australian and Israeli retail clients, 1:25 in Japan, up to 1:200 at the BVI entity, and up to 1:400 through the South African and Abu Dhabi entities or for professional clients. The product list runs to roughly 1,250 instruments, including around 50 forex pairs, indices, commodities, crypto CFDs, ETFs and bonds, plus forex options and exchange-traded futures in selected regions.
Platforms and tools
AvaTrade offers an unusually wide platform set:
- AvaTrade WebTrader and the AvaTradeGO mobile app for everyday CFD trading.
- MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 for expert advisors and custom indicators.
- AvaOptions, a dedicated platform for vanilla forex options, with a higher deposit requirement.
- AvaFutures for CME futures, with TradingView charts.
- AvaSocial and DupliTrade for copy trading; DupliTrade requires a larger deposit.
Trading Central research is included. Reviewers point out that the AvaOptions desktop software feels dated and that the mobile app's charting lacks drawing tools. We could not verify an AvaTrade-branded EUR/USD feed on TradingView, so the generic FX:EURUSD chart is the reference.
Deposits and withdrawals
Accounts can be funded by credit or debit card, bank wire and, depending on region, e-wallets such as PayPal, Skrill, Neteller and WebMoney. FXEmpire notes that e-wallets such as Skrill, Neteller and WebMoney are aimed at clients outside the EU and Australia, so residents there should expect to rely mainly on cards and bank transfers. Base currencies include USD, EUR and GBP, with others such as AUD, ZAR and CHF in some regions. Deposits are typically processed within a day, and withdrawals usually take one to two business days to approve.
Who AvaTrade suits
- Traders who want a heavily regulated broker with a commission-free account.
- Those interested in forex options alongside CFDs.
- Beginners who want copy trading through AvaSocial or DupliTrade.
- Muslim traders needing swap-free terms.
It is less attractive for US residents, who cannot open an account, and for traders who go months without trading because of the inactivity fees.
Verdict
AvaTrade's strengths are its extensive regulation, competitive commission-free EUR/USD pricing and a product mix that includes options, futures and copy trading. Weaker points are the steep inactivity charges, a dated options platform and the absence of a raw-spread retail account. For most traders who prioritise safety and variety over the lowest possible commissions, it is a solid, established choice. As always with leveraged CFDs, the majority of retail accounts lose money, so trade with care.
